Chris Todd Wins His First NSW Masters Snooker Championship
/This is the 6th year the Masters has been held at Club Marconi. Marconi is the home of the NSW Masters, and the players arrived to see a newly renovated Snooker Room. Club Marconi is very proud to hold this event and be one of our biggest supporters. The club now boasts one of the best Snooker Rooms in Sydney.
This year we had our own Live Streaming (Sponsored by YFF Your Financial Freedom), thanks to the hard work and dedication of Neville Moore and Bill Chan. You will find links on our Facebook page and Neville's Facebook page Billiards & Snooker Videos NSW.
The NSW Masters Shield (Donated by Gary & Ronda Knight) had a new name on it (Richard Peric), after the Joe Minici and Roger Farebrother show, Richard Peric was the defending champion this year. Unfortunately Richards run was ended by eventual winner Chris Todd in the last 16.
Congratulations to Chris Todd the 2017 NSW MASTERS CHAMPION. Chris defeated Terry Emmett 4-2. It was Chris’s first win in the Masters and Terry’s 2nd time as runner up. Chris had a Tough Semi final against Tim Ng winning 3 Black Ball games, after Tim had defeated Current State and Australian Champion Roger Farebrother. Terry had defeated the legendary Joe Minici in the quarters and Alfred Borg in the semis, after Freddie had taken out Glen Wilkinson. George Dennaoui the other semi finalist had a great tournament also defeating David Hunter in the Quarters.
Joe Minici had the highest break of 92, please see separate break list.
We had an amazing 48 runners and a huge weekend. With 12 groups of 4 there was 72 best of 3 games to be played on Saturday, this certainly was plenty of snooker for everyone, which is what attracts players to the tournament. The master’s category is growing every year and we may out grow the current format. But the amateur snooker tournament model, competitive snooker over a weekend mixing with friends, like minded people all enjoying themselves win or lose, is a difficult one to change.
The top 2 in each group qualifying for the knockout stage, bringing 24 players back on into the club on Sunday morning for a final 24.
Once again Jim Ruisi was up before dawn to prepare the tables on both days, thank you Jim and the Marconi Snooker Association, these tournaments wouldn’t happen without them. Thank you to the Referees who stand up all day¸ and those who helped out. Thank you to our fabulous team at BSANSW particularly Stuart Tait, Neville Moore. And thank you to all the players and spectators who came along.
The next tournament is the NSW Minor Snooker at Toukley RSL and the Australian Masters at Mingara.
