Vinnie Calabrese Wins 2017 NSW Snooker Championship
/This year’s State titles were again held at BLACKTOWN WORKERS CLUB. Vinnie Calabrese has defeated Brett Watson in the final to win his second State Snooker Championship. Vinnie’s potting, break building, and shot selection surely make him one of our best all round players. The benefit of playing on the World Professional Circuit could be seen and Vinnie was certainly a pleasure to watch even if you were on the receiving end. Congratulations Vinnie. Vinnie also had the highest break a beautifully complied 126 clearance in the first frame of the final. And a list of breaks as long as your arm. The Championship record is a 147 made by Warren King in 1994.
The Final was Live Streamed (thank you to Neville Moore) as were games the whole weekend. Thanks to our live streaming sponsor David Valvo from Your Financial Freedom. Well done to Brett Watson for making the final, Brett made it through several final frame games and his incredible long potting and quick scoring kept him in control on many occasions. It’s not Brett’s first appearance in a final as Brett has won the Australian Open consolation plate on two occasions and will certainly be a player to watch. Brett also had an impressive list of breaks. Other notable performances came from Sam Cuschieri defeating Nathan Karam in the quarter final.
The event attracted 58 entries and as always was a huge program to get through, and once again the players support was incredible. Also a big thank you to everyone that came to the club to watch. It sure is fantastic free entertainment. So get down to Blacktown Workers for the Inaugural IAN CHAPPELL BLACKTOWN WORKERS CLASSIC (14/1516 July) and watch the best players in the country.
Thank you to players for your continued support for our game and your continued support is critical for the game’s future.
A huge thank you to the Blacktown workers club and the staff for their ongoing commitment to this event, the club opens its arms for us and nothing is too much trouble for them, the club has fantastic facilities and its atmosphere is friendly and relaxing. A great place for a snooker tournament and catching up with friends. And of course another huge thank you for the guys from the snooker club you’re a great bunch of people and your love for the game is evident by what you do and the way you do it. You show your support with all the hard work and your commitment to this event is why the event is flourishing. The club is a snookers players dream.
A big thank you to the referees who put in a tireless effort on both days, particularly to Neville Moore, thank you for all your support and commitment to our game.
Thank you to assistant tournament director Stuart Tait who hung in there with me on both days and is the lynchpin in a successful event these days, without Stuart I wouldn’t have the luxury of playing as well.
See you all at our Centenary Dinner 15th July at the Blacktown workers club.
