Elsley King Of The Kids

After losing the final in 2010 and the semi final in 2011, Rob Elsley, from Newcastle, has taken out the annual “Cueing for Kids” Snooker tournament held at Club Toukley RSL on the weekend, defeating Patrick Yeung, from Sydney, 3-1, in an entertaining final.

Both players had tough early round matches, but their superior play got them through to the final and the large crowd of spectators enjoyed the fine snooker played by both players. Rob raced to a 2-0 lead and everyone thought that Patrick had played his “final” when he defeated Matt Helm 3-1 in their semi, but he won the 3rd frame and had a good lead in the 4th only to see Rob fight back to win, as he did at 2 all with Terry Jennar in their semi.

The “Cueing for Kids” handicap snooker tournament is an annual charity fundraising event conducted by the Central Coast Billiards & Snooker Association in conjunction with local radio station 2GO’s annual “Give Me 5 For Kids Appeal”. All donations raised go to the local Gosford and Wyong Hospital’s Children’s Wards. Once 2012’s efforts have been tallied it is anticipated that the “Cueing for Kids” concept will have raised total funds in excess of $11000 since first being held in 2004. This is a great result from snooker players and supporters for a very worthy cause.

Central Coast Association President, Bill Kelly, thanked Club Toukley RSL for once again sponsoring this event, which they have done since its inception, also the other major sponsors in Club Toukley RSL Snooker & Billiards Club, House of Real Estate North Gosford and Coastwide Waterproofing. Along with all the other minor sponsors too numerous to mention. He also thanked everyone for their participation in making this year’s event a success and called for continued support next year.

If you would like to be involved next year, keep the first weekend of July open for a great weekend of snooker for a very good cause.
