2012 HSS Grand Final
/HSS Grand Final
Played Tuesday 28 August At Hornsby
Hornsby defeated Norths1
Hornsby got off to a good start and were 4-2 up after the first three players of each team had completed their frames. Norths came back and were 6-5 down with the last singles which could have gone either way but Hornsby took the frame to go 7-5 up. Norths won the first doubles in a landslide win and were very close in another but eventually Hornsby raced ahead to win for the second time in all the years since they started playing in the ACRO then HSS Competitions. Great breaks by Mal Hannigan (52) and Peter Tankard (40) were a treat to watch.
Congratulations to Trevor Harrison and his Hornsby team on their fine win, they thoroughly deserved to take out the top honours in the end. Congratulations also to Paul Balzer for the highest break of the season, 112. The electronic scoreboard set up and operated by Dave McMahon was again widely acknowledged as excellent.
Thanks also to those who marked the frames, we had some notable markers in Joe Minici, David Waller, Frank Galanos, Sasha Ghersini, Serge Mastroanni, and Jim Sullivan, their effort contributed to the good atmosphere generated on the night for 50+ spectators.
The Presentation night, although quite late, was well attended and the food was excellent, the drinks were all on the tab and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
North Ryde 1 collected the Scottish Cup having defeated Pittwater last week. The Hornsby team was clearly delighted with their win and had smiles from ear to ear until the event wound up around midnight.
The management and staff at Hornsby RSL were constantly in contact to ensure all arrangements were as required, they did a great job. Roll on next year’s competition.
