Snooker & Billiards NSW Announces New Chair & Board Appointments
/Snooker & Billiards NSW (SBNSW) is pleased to announce the election of a new Chair and Deputy Chair for 2025, and the appointment of two additional Directors to join the seven elected at December’s AGM.
The new positions and appointments were confirmed during a packed agenda at the first SBNSW Board meeting of the year on Monday, 19 January. They are:
Chairperson: Todd Hayward
Deputy Chairperson: Carlie Tait
Appointed Directors: Andy DeHaan (Director of Juniors and Coaching)
Neil Perkins
Todd’s four-decade involvement with snooker and billiards in NSW has taken many forms after starting as a junior player in the mid-1980s. Away from the table, Todd has extensive experience in the media, government and business consulting sector, which he will look to leverage for the benefit of SBNSW and its members.
Carlie makes an invaluable contribution to SBNSW’s operations, and we congratulate her on her appointment as Deputy Chairperson. In addition to her playing talent and passion for expanding opportunities for women’s participation in our sports, Carlie has played a leading role in the development of SBNSW’s governance and strategic policies, and she shoulders the mountain of work involved in securing and complying with Government grant programs.
Andy DeHaan’s elevation to the Board coincides with his critical dual appointment as SBNSW’s Director of Juniors & Coaching. Andy is a successful business owner who has shown a similar commitment to promoting and introducing our games to new participants, particularly junior players through regular clinics and events at Hornsby RSL. He is also currently pursuing certification as a National Billiards Coach accredited through the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA). With his mix of skills and experience, Andy is a very welcome addition to the Board. He will be supported in his Director roles by two key subcommittees:
• The Juniors subcommittee, with support from Jason Hastings
• The Coaching subcommittee, with support from Peter Tankard
Jason and Peter are among the most active and effective promoters of snooker and billiards in Australia, and we look forward to their contributions in these important committees. Their appointments reflect SBNSW’s commitment to encouraging more young people to get involved in our great games, and to growing the availability and quality of coaching at all levels of our sport, right across the State.
Neil Perkins would be well known to many SBNSW members as a co-founder of the popular Sydney Snooker & Billiards Facebook Group. Neil has an outstanding network of contacts across the NSW snooker and billiards community and will be deeply involved in helping SBNSW grow its membership base and deepen engagement with our club supporters, particularly in regional NSW.
We again thank and congratulate Alex Render for his many years of outstanding service as Chair of SBNSW, and we are delighted he will continue to play an active role as a Board member. Alex’s decision to step down from the Chair post means he can focus more time and energy to the ABSC Presidency and the other key roles he holds in our sports, in addition to his extensive work and family commitments.
