Waller and Mares Win 2015 NSW Doubles Snooker
/The 2015 NSW State Doubles was again held at Club Marconi. Club Marconi is one of our major venues for snooker and the snooker club contribute more than a lot to our sport, particularly Jim Ruisi and Vic Sacco, their ongoing support is extremely valuable. If you like a game of snooker good food and great company. Club Marconi is the place.
Gary Mares & David Waller defeated Mick & Luke Hough 3-0, to win their first state doubles title. The first frame could have gone either way, Mares & Waller were fairly well in control in the next 2 frames, although the door being left ajar, the Hough’s couldn’t force it back open.
Well done to Mick & Luke defeating The Minici Brothers 3 nil in the Semi final, Tournament favorites Nick Vasic & Terry Emmett went down in the other Semi which hung in the balance all the way. Nick had the highest break of 77 in the first frame of the semi-final.
Hassan Kerde who teamed up with Junior Denzel Nicholson from Bathurst played some extremely good snooker all day with breaks of 75, 70 and were unlucky to go out. We had 12 teams enter with some good combinations, we had players traveling from Bathurst, North & South Coasts, and a big thank you to all players who entered, the standard of snooker was very good.
All games were played over the one day with a best of five formats. The players refereed their own games and all matched were played in great spirit. Many thanks to Neville Moore who was the Room Referee for the day, and refereed the final and Alex Anson training Ron for his
ticket. Ron did 3 games. And of course Stuart Tait Assistant Tournament Director who is an invaluable asset to our game and I couldn’t have the luxury of playing without him. Thank you Stuart. And to Frank Galanos, who we miss immensely, get well Frank.
Wishing everyone a Merry Xmas & a Happy New Year and enjoy your snooker
David Waller
