Shaun Dalitz State Minor Snooker Champion
/The minors this year were held again at Toukley RSL on the central coast, a wonderful spot for a weekend away and a spot of snooker. The club itself is very comfortable and friendly and of course has excellent facilities. The tables were in excellent condition and were brushed and ironed at the start of each days play (thanks to norm Williams). The balls were sparkling clean courtesy of the Tournament Director who did a wonderful job. 40 players mostly from Sydney entered the competition, there were 5 local players but the numbers from the central coast were down, despite two group emails going out prior to closing date. And several face book posts.
Shaun Dalitz defeated Trevor Rayner in the final in a high quality game, Shaun was too strong and consistent in the end and Trevor who had a grueling path to the final, fought hard all the way potting beautifully, but Shaun was just too good. Shaun however was polishing off frames and matches in a very classy display, which is what we were expecting from him and he of himself. He has now ticked the box and we wish him well in the future.
The highest break was 116 poss 138 posted by Shaun in the quarter final against Luke Hough who provided minimal resistance taking a frame but never threatened the finishing line.
The games ran on time and the final was finished at ten past five. A big thank you to Toukley Rsl for their continued support of our great game and the members for giving up the tables for the weekend, thank you to joy Perkins who was on hand all weekend to help with all our needs, and of course the referees who are the quiet achievers of our beautiful game, and need to be treated with the utmost respect at all times.
Special thanks to Frank Galanos our association Treasurer on hand to referee all weekend and assist in anything required. Ross Wyard as assistant tournament director, and Head Referee. Stuart Tait for stationary preparation an integral part of the smooth running of the event. To Jeff Middleton for his help with computer stuff and printing a large poster size draw sheet to put up on the wall.
Until next time enjoy your snooker.
