Judgement Day at Marconi
/Ben Judge the Australian number 18 before this event from Western Australia has recorded a 4-2 victory over Hassan Kerde the Australian number 7 from NSW in the Final of the 2013 Club Marconi South Pacific Open Snooker.
Ben has been on the World Professional Circuit for the past year and at 2-2 you could see him step up the standard of the Match and record a 65 Clearance in the final frame.
The breaks in the final from Ben were 40, 66, 46 and a 65 in the final frame with Hassan recording 58, 46, and 46 so the standard of the final was quite good considering the long day it was for both of them. Hassan had reordered a 147 break a few weeks prior to this event and you could see he was in a confident mood from the start of the event and I’m sure his first Australian Ranking Event is very close.
Club Marconi Members as per normal made a great crowd in the final watching the event and many club players from around Sydney came to support the event which was great to see.
The 2013 Event was well supported with 58 entries and it ran close to the times for such a large field and I would like to thank Stuart Tait for his help once again in this event.
It would not be possible to run these events without people willing to help out and we need more people to do so. If you’re interested in helping as I know many voice opinions, please contact us and maybe next year we could have another person running the event in 2014.
There were a few shock results with great play from Alfred Borg beating Steve Mifsud 3-2 and winning a trophy for the best placed player outside the 32. As you will see on the results sheet there were many upsets during the event but that’s Snooker and sometimes this happens.
I decided in this event to also have a best dressed player and that went to Ali Ganji who also won 2nd and 4th place in the raffle I think due to his amount of tickets he purchased.
First place in the raffle was Craig Turner with Steve L wining third place. The raffle was well supported and we thank all that supported the raffle prizes which were donated by sharpsnooker, secret wines and Frank Galanos.
The highest Break was achieved by Port Macquarie player Michael Cosh with a 105 and the other Century break made was by Terry Emmett with 102.
I would like to thank the sponsors who without their contributions, events like this would not be possible. Our Major sponsor once again was Club Marconi with our other sponsors Charlie Deguara, and Sharpsnooker.
Special thanks goes to Jim Ruisi, Vic Sacco from Club Marconi for preparing the tables and allowing the use of the room for the weekend.
Final Thank you for all the players and referee’s that supported the event and I hope to see you all support the 2014 event.
