2018 NSW State 6 Red Snooker Championship Report

This year’s Championships were again held at Club Marconi, on the 23rd & 24th of June. It’s a fantastic club and has one of the best snooker rooms in Sydney. Unfortunately there has been no live streaming these last two 6 red tournaments as Neville Moore has been recovering from a minor operation. But he is back this week at Guildford leagues for the Minor Billiards Point Score and of course the Ian Chappell Blacktown Workers Classic.

A field of 51 players assembled on Saturday for a best of 7 straight knockout formats. Best of 9 for the last 16/Quarters/Semis played on Sunday with the final being best of 11. Some very entertaining snooker was on offer throughout the weekend.

Joe Minici has defeated Jom Wangta for his 3rd NSW State 6 Red Snooker Title. Joe was solid all weekend and played extremely well in the final.
Alan McCarthy had the maximum break of 75.
Our Defending Champion Hassan Kerde defeated Glen Wilkinson 5-4 in the Quarters, but Jom defeated Huss 5-4 in the semis.

Thank you to all the players who entered, and a big thank you to Club Marconi and their members, the Marconi Snooker Association, particularly Jim Ruisi who gets up at the crack of dawn to prepare the tables. Vic refereed a couple of games as always. Also a big thankyou to our referees Warren Ackary, Stuart Tait, Gareth King & Neville Moore.

Also special mention to Diana Ackary our Assistant Tournament Director. Diana puts in a lot of work behind the scenes as Treasurer and Membership Officer.

Hope to see everyone at the Club Marconi for the South Pacific.

Until next time, enjoy your snooker
